Month: January 2012
It’s that time again. We are celebrating and walking into a new year with newfound hopes, dreams, and purpose for our lives. The time in which we make vows and have the best intentions of changing. A desire to become better people, as we have yet another opportunity to “get it right”. Notably, you see an increase of commercials in the media as it pertains to food and getting our bodies in shape. Likewise, you may hear others’ saying, “this year I’m going to eat consciously by putting healthier foods in my body and exercise more”. While these goals sound good and are attainable, I believe that we should add a very important decision/goal to our list. In fact, I believe this particular resolution should be included in the top 3. We get so caught up making New Year resolutions with food, that we miss the mark when it comes to renewing our minds. If it’s true as the saying goes, “You are what you eat”, then I would also like to add, “You are what you think”. For instance, the more you eat fatty foods, the higher risk for disease and other ailments. Similarly, the more you allow yourself to hear, see, and dwell on things contrary to who God is (and who you are in Christ), the more we fall away from Him- leaving us open to sin. When we purpose in our hearts to renew our minds to the standard Jesus is calling us to, other goals will seem less insurmountable. And may I add, like “cakewalk”. When you change your mind, you inevitably change your life! Let’s change for the better!
Romans 12:2- And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable perfect will of God.
