Month: January 2015
Regrets. God, why did I do that? If only I could have, I should’ve known..….The list can go on and on. I must confess, I’ve had a difficult time when it comes to forgiveness. I’m not hinting about forgiving others (although it can be quite challenging). What I’m referring to is letting go of your past. Before the new year, 2014 was spent having impromptu pity parties. Recalling how years before, singleness was spent with the wrong people in terms of giving my heart away. Fortunately, they were oblivious to that fact. However, self assessment forced me to look at my hand and responsibility to guard my heart. Lord, I can’t go back and change things- and I wish I could. Each tear carried those words- until something happened.
Have you ever been there? The place where you’ve cried long enough and answered with, no- you can’t go back. Yet, I can learn from my past and be intentional with my future. In that single moment, I arrived at the intersection of what will you do now? Turning the corner to a brand new perspective and brand new year, I knew my past and years of crying about it was buried. I chose to move forward and have decided to forgive myself. After all, Christ has forgiven me!
Can I just say, the freedom of self-forgiveness is liberating, joyful, and contagious! When the past is knocking at my door, I respond with- I can’t change it so learn and let go.
Here’s your call to action:
If you find yourself stuck in the past, make a list of what happened and describe the actual feeling (sad, angry, disappointed, etc.). Next, find a solution. Writing the question, What can I do about It now may help. If you are not able to physically change it, what ways can you transform your perspective? Last (but certainly not least), ask God to help you move forward and see things from His point of view.
Romans 8:1-2, Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
2015 is waiting for you. Life is calling for you to seize and enjoy. God wants you to bury the bags of your past and run to your divine destiny. He’s waiting…..
